You need a solid foundation for success. Family, faith, education and community support are essential for building this solid foundation. Surround yourself with people who foster personal growth. Interact with like minded people. Pick your friends carefully. The people you chose to associate with determine who you are and who you will become. Surround yourself with ambitious people, people with vision and a common interest. Surround yourself with people who you are accountable to. You find that it is easier to reach success when there is less resistance from those around you.


Sometimes, you may lack the external support you need. You may find yourself walking alone on the path to success. In this instance, you may need to be your own motivator. Remember your goals and stay accountable to them. Keep yourself accountable. Believe in yourself. People can sense when you are unsure of yourself. Believing that you can accomplish something will help you accomplish it. Work hard and don’t be afraid to go the extra mile. Invest in yourself: invest in education, courses, seminars, self improvement. Don’t stop growing.


Have a plan. Target where you want to get to and figure out steps to get there. Have something you want to sell. Be marketable. It could be a trade, a knowledge base, something that you can market to a company or organization. Prepare yourself! It is important if you want to be successful. A person cannot wake up one morning and decide to be a doctor. They have to have a plan and take the necessary steps towards accomplishing this goal. Set a goal and figure out what you need to do to accomplish that goal. Don’t look for shortcuts.


Lastly, be accountable to your goals. If you set goals and compare your activities and progress towards those goals, it keeps you accountable. Have an accountability partner, someone you trust, and is honest with you. It could be a coach, an advisor, a trusted confidant. But it must be someone who is not afraid to be honest. You must be open to being a good client. Listen to feedback and be receptive of them. You cannot be successful if you cannot receive constructive criticism.
